I am a conservative and this is what I believe.
Good for you! A great nation is not built by consensus oppression. It requires free minds.
Sounds good to me.
... and states rights above the United States Federal Government through the United States Constitution under the ratification from the Articles of Confederation to the newly written United States Constitution.
Do you believe in actual limited government or the kind of "limited" government that lets the rich do whatever they want and tells everyone else who they can marry and that women have no control over their own bodies?
I stand for free market economics, not crony capitalism that some Republicans support which helps the wealthy. These are things like food subsidies and bailouts, which are generally supported by Democrats too. Keep in mind that while the government is limited it isn't anarchy. For gay marriage, I don't think much of the issue because it is legal now in my state as a result of a Supreme Court ruling. I support abortion for rape victims, but my definition on when life begins is probably different than yours.
There need to be more conservatives like you around.
There are plenty. In fact, most Republicans probably care more about economics and fiscal policy than social policy.
I see. However it's the ones who are all about an oppressive "family values" social policy that are the most vocal I assume?
No, but the liberal press would want that. Mitt Romney isn't that big on social issues. Neither is my governor, Scott Walker. There are some social conservatives though, who no doubt have a right to voice their opinions. Mike Huckabee is one of them, as is Rick Santorum. The Republican Party, just like the Democratic Party, is a big tent of people who care about free market economics, defense policy, Judeo-Christian values, and even libertarian aspects. There's just different people who care about different issues.
Sounds more like a Libertarian than today's Conservatives.
I meant, where do the religious right land, with the Conservatives or the Neo's? To suggest personal responsibility is only practiced by one party is just ludicrous and divisive.
That depends. Neoconservatives are different than conservatives.
You truly are a despicable waste of life
JUST KIDDING! XD
Totally agree with your poster's statement!
you must really hate the Republican party then
Proud Progressive Conservative!
odd...that sounds more like Libertarian, which is what I am.
conservatives are similar to libertarians.
People are too greedy, lazy and foolish for responsibility.
“If the natural tendencies of mankind are so bad that it is not safe to permit people to be free, how is it that the tendencies of these organizers are always good? Do not the legislators and their appointed agents also belong to the human race? Or do they believe that they themselves are made of a finer clay than the rest of mankind?”
Sounds like a quote from Bioshock or something.
So it's back to the time of kings and peasants, then?
Love that era
It's not like we have evolved much since then genetically.Other then getting taller.
Are you at all familiar with the Enlightenment Era, and the liberty movement that resulted? Do names like John Locke or Thomas Jefferson ring any bells?
if people are too greedy lazy and foolish, why would you want them to govern you
That's why we have elected officials. We are the government.
Sometimes that is true and it is sad.
